New Year, New News

Bloggers,

I have received intelligence that the great Ronald Balfour Corbett aka (also known as) Ronnie Corbett aka (also known as) one of the "Two Ronnies" has received a C.B.E aka (also known as) "Commander of the Order of the British Empire" for all of his hard work and dedication to the art of comedy. I love "Two Ronnies", it was one of my most favourite programmes when I was younger. Unfortunately, Ronnie Barker RIP (rest in peace) passed away in 2005 so there has not been any new television set features featuring the two of them together in action. However, I just know that Ronnie Barker RIP (rest in peace) would be most proud of Ronnie Corbett.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish all my avid blog readers a very Happy New Year. I am having a joyous evening. I have been playing a game commonly known as "Twister". For those who do not know, this is a game of physical skill so owing to my disability, I am unable to play per se. However, Emmanuelle perches on the relevant coloured circle. My role is to be the colour co-ordinator whereby I call out where everybody's body part should be placed. I am now reading a wonderful book about Ireland (which is of particular relevence as I am of Irish decent and was supposed to be there this weekend. Unfortunately, this has now been post-poned until further notice) as written by the delightful Sir Terrence Wogan. As some of you may know, Sir Terrence Wogan is one of my biggest heroes. He does so much for the "Children in Need" appeal.

I urge you all to keep reading, subscribe and comment. I will actively take requests on discussion topics or if anyone would like a specific review written.

Kindest regards,
Melvyn P. O'Shea

The King's Speech

Evening bloggers!

I have had a wonderful afternoon watching one of my new DVDs aka (also known as) Digital Versitile Discs aka (also known as) Digital Video Discs. The King's Speech was kindly purchased for me by my Aunt Helen for Christmas. As I have mentioned before, I am very passionate about history and also the Royal family. Therefore, this DVD aka (also known as) Digital Versitile Disc aka (also known as) Digital Video Disc did not disappoint.

The King's Speech is a true story showing the struggles King George VI faced with a speech impediment aka (also known as) a stammer. However, he is helped by an Australian speech therapist known as Lionel Logue to make a very important radio announcement in 1939 regarding the start of World War II aka (also known as) the war between Britain and the Nazi's.

I, myself, have suffered with such an impediment in the past. However unlike King George VI, I did not require the service of Lionel Logue to overcome it. I have found that singing can be a remarkable help. I love singing.

The King's Speech is a truly capital film. I rate it 4.9 Melvyn stars out of 5 ★★★★.9. Only The Terminator (1984) ever been awarded 5 Melvyn stars out of 5. You simply cannot beat perfection I'll have you know.

Kindest regards,
Melvyn P. O'Shea

A Christmas Doughnut Challenge

Hi bloggers!

I would like to present you with a glorious Christmas Challenge, which originates from an old O'Shea family tradition carried out at this time of year. However, please note that this challenge can actually be taken at any time of year should you wish to participate of course.

The challenge is thus, take one jam-filled doughnut engulfed in sugar and try to eat it without licking your lips.

I'll have you know that it is a lot more difficult that you can imagine. I myself, have only managed it a few times previously.

Kindest regards,
Melvyn P. O'Shea

E-Readers

Afternoon bloggers, it's me, Melvyn. Melvyn P. O'Shea.

I'm here to bring you a small review on E-Readers aka (also known as) electronic books. My mother kindly purchased me an E-Reader for Christmas. I personally now own the Amazon Kindle from £89 R.R.P aka (also known as) recommended retail price. I should mention that other brands are available, as I know you shouldn't really support individual brands as such. I like to promote fairness and equality. However, it is Amazon's #1 best selling product so make of that what you will.

I am very happy with this gift. It is light (< or less than 247 grams), portable (18% smaller body with dimensions of 166 mm x 114 mm x 8.7 mm and 6" screen size - fits in your pocket), has seamless page turning capabilities, which is espcially useful for the times where you are simply engrossed in a novel or information book. It also has built in wireless internet connection aka (also known as) Wi-Fi aka (also known as) Wireless Fidelity. However, I was very fortunate to obtain the 3G aka (also know as) 3rd generation mobile telecommunications, which I am under good authority to believe that it was slightly more in pounds sterling. The battery life is astonishing as a single charge lasts up to one month (or two months if you also have the 3G model like myself) with wireless off based upon a half-hour of daily reading time.

It has some groundbreaking features. For example for accessibility, if you struggle with your sight there are up to 8 different font sizes. It has a built in dictionary for those who require "on the go" definitions. It also allows users to share meaningful passages or in my case the Lord's scriptures as the first book I "downloaded" was infact 'The Bible'. The second book I "downloaded" was the 'Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin'. Benjamin Franklin was none other than a founding father of the United States of America aka (also known as) the USA. Thirdly I "downloaded" a magazine called 'Asimov's Science Fiction' magazine as I am passionate about Science fiction and fantasy. However, I do also like reading about physics and physical science too.

I would like to rate the Amazon Kindle 3G + Wi Fi E-Reader a remarkable and splendid 4.7 Melvyn stars out of 5. ★★★★.7 (Thank you for the stars, Dorothy)

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage all of my avid readers to comment and subscribe to Melvyn's Realm. I do NOT bite and would enjoy some active interaction and discussions.

Kindest regards,
Melvyn P. O'Shea

An update on the Duke

Good morning everyone and what a delighful morning it is.

I have some splendid news to share. As you may be aware Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, 10th June 1921) took a turn for the worse on none other than Christmas eve. However, after missing 3 wonderful days of Yuletide with his glorious family, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (born Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark, 10th June 1921) is now on the mend. This morning, he left Papworth Hospital, Cambridgeshire, England, UK and is heading to Sandringham estate to be with his family. I am not a medical physician but I am led to believe that he suffered a blocked coronary artery.

I would like to wish him all the very best for his recovery. I like the Royal family, they do a remarkable amount of work for this country. They truly are a British phenomemon.

Kindest regards,
Melvyn P. O'Shea

St. Stephen's Day aka (also known as) Boxing Day

Good afternoon bloggers!

Today marks St. Stephen's Day aka (also known as) Boxing Day aka (also known as) the day after Christmas. St. Stephen was a Christian saint. However, his day of celebration varies depending on the location and doctrine of your Church. Here in Great Britain and Ireland, we celebrate this day on December 26th. When I was a boy growing up in the Outskirts of London, England, UK, my late father Melvyn P. O'Shea Senior (Snr for short) RIP (rest in peace) would often sing the following popular rhyme which decended from Ireland (Date: unknown. Writer: anonymous)

"The wren, the wren, the king of all birds,
St. Stephen's Day was caught in the furze,
Although he was little his honour was great,
Jump up me lads and give us a treat.
As I was going to Killenaule,
I met a wren upon the wall.
Up with me wattle and knocked him down,
And brought him in to Carrick Town.
Drooolin, Droolin, where's your nest?
Tis in the bush that I love best
In the tree, the holly tree,
Where all the boys do follow me.
Up with the kettle and down with the pan,
And give us a penny to bury the wren.
I followed the wren three miles or more,
Three miles or more three miles or more.
I followed the wren three miles or more,
At six o'clock in the morning.
I have a little box under me arm,
Under me arm under me arm.
I have a little box under me arm,
A penny or tuppence would do it no harm.
Mrs. Clancy's a very good woman,
a very good woman, a very good woman,
Mrs. Clancy's a very good woman,
She give us a penny to bury the wren"

I have had the most glorious of St. Stephen's Days. I have had the opportunity to play with some of my wonderful gifts. As you may remember from my introductory blog issue, I have a passion for technology, gadgets and gizmos. My mother kindly purchased me a range of such items. One of my favourites is a Henry Desktop Vacuum, which I have found very useful in cleaning the dashboard of my custom battery operated vehicle, Stalin the black stallion. This remarkable device is powered by 3 x AA batteries. I personally use the brand Duracel, as I find they last significantly longer. However, that is another blog in itself.  Henry is ideal for sucking up biccy crumbs and unidentified specks from your work space, and he'll whoosh up the dust on electronic bits and bobs faster than you can say 'Yikes, keep your food to yourself Emmanuelle!. Henry measures approximately 10cm (H) x 9.5cm (W) x 10cm (D) and his Nozzle is much longer at 35cm long. It came in particular good use this afternoon, when I vacuumed up some absent without leave aka (also known as) AWOL stuffing balls as today's lunch comprised of some cold meats, leftover stuffing balls, a Yorkshire pudding and a fried egg. This food combination is a family St Stephen's Day tradition.

Kindest regards,
Melvyn P. O'Shea

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Seasons Greetings bloggers!

As you may be aware, today is the birth-date of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour, God in Heaven. I have had the most glorious of Christmases. The day began at 06:30 am when I arose to find many presents snuggled under our festive Christmas pine tree. Thankfully, the pines are still attached to the tree as they have yet to fall off onto the floor. However, I was unable to open my gifts until I had eaten all of my festive breakfast. As the old O'Shea family saying goes "open one after breakfast, open many after after Church".
My mother, my Aunt Helen, my cousin Dorothy and myself sat down and indulged in smoked salmon en crouté aka (also known as) smoked salmon in pastry. Once this was eaten I opened my 2012 Official Sir Cliff Richard OBE aka (also known as) Harry Roger Webb (born 14th October 1940) calendar which was kindly purchased by my mother. I was delighted with this gift as I am Sir Cliff Richard OBE aka (also known as) Harry Roger Webb (born 14th October 1940) biggest fan. We had a beautiful service where I was able to remember my late father Melvyn P. O'Shea Senior (Snr for short) RIP (rest in peace). There were readings and carols galore! After this, my remaining gifts were unveiled. I do not have enough time to list every gift right now. However, they will be revealed in future blog posts. Needless to say, I am very very happy. I am indeed a lucky boy.
Christmas dinner was an absolute delight. I could not move from my custom battery operated vehicle, Stalin the black stallion. My mother and Aunt Helen cooked a wonderful feast. The main attraction was an impressive feat known as a "Three Bird Roast" aka (also known as) a bird inside a bird inside a bird. I like birds, if you know what I mean so I was very pleased to say the least. After a deliciously decadent main meal, out came a flaming pudding (excuse my language as it was literally a-flame). I was unfortunate and did not find the tuppence hidden within the deep depths of fruit.

I hope all you bloggers had a wonderful Christmas. I hope the big bearded fellow brought you many gifts. However, please take time to remember the real Christmas meaning, the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

As Tiny Tim Cratchet one spoke in the remarkable Charles Dickens Novel (A Christmas Carol), "God Bless us, every one".

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me a Mares BCD
On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me two diving fins
On the third day of Christmas my true love gave to me three SMBs
On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me four diving reels
On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me five O rings
On the sixth day of Christmas my true love gave to me six wet suits
On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me seven blocks of lead
On the eighth day of Christmas my true love gave to me eight weight belts
On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me nine masks and snorkels
On the tenth day of Christmas my true love gave to me a 10 litre cylinder

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love gave to me twelve dive computers

I would now like to dedicate this post to my glorious friend and diving expert extrordinaire Alan. Alan has been in regular email and mobile telephone correspondences in order to assist in helping a disabled person like myself to take the plunge and become a fully fledged SCUBA diver.

Kindest regards
Melvyn P. O'Shea
